So Silver did know him… It was unexpected, but then again he knew his name was still well-known. Even to this day he was remembered for his feats. He blinked for a moment. He didn’t want to remember those days.

“…I want to know what’s wrong.” Red answered him. He could see the emotion in the male’s eyes. Despite any attempts to cover them, it still felt and looked very raw, to the point it almost hurt. "Don’t think you can fool me. I can plainly see you’re upset.“

What was it that was nagging him about the boy, though? Something seemed horribly off, yet Red couldn’t quite put his finger on it… All he knew was that it felt familiar to him.

…I don’t know. I just feel sad… Like the world is closing in and there’s no place to run and hide. Like I’m being crushed by some heavy weight that won’t let up, making it hard to breath...“ he whispered, shaking his head before he sighed.

"But if I told anybody that… They’d kill me… I dunno why… But I have this feeling that the world is ripping further away from me… Like I’m supposed to be doing something…” he mumbled, shaking his head. “That’s just… Stupid though.”

Well now… This was a face Red vaguely remembered. He had bits and pieces of memory from his days waiting for Johto’s champions, and this young man…wasn’t one of those two. No, instead, he had happened upon their rival. But there was something about the redhead that he couldn’t shake off…

He decided to approach the youth, who appeared to be distressed. Red knew it was possible Silver wouldn’t recognize him at all, but Red knew of him, and that was good enough. He kept a bit of distance, assuring the other space if he so wanted it.

“… Hello there, Silver. Fancy meeting you here..” He greeted, ashen irises fixed on him. Curiosity was the only emotion he let shine through in his voice and expression.

Silver glanced up, forcing back his tears and his bitterness as he stood up, “…” this man spoke normally to him, no lecture, an actual hello. It threw him for a loop as he gazed at the male.

A name fell from his tongue, “Red.” After all, everybody knew the legendary champion who stood up top Mount Silver, everybody knew who the great Red was, especially him. His father still fumed about the boy who trashed his team and hideouts.

What… What do you want?” he was confused, the male spoke so normally towards him without hatred or pity, or even the usual disgust people normally gave him.

He could feel himself shattering. He knew weakness of any kind would get him into trouble but he couldn’t help it, he ached everytime he saw a Pokémon and it ran from him. He wanted to be a better person but somehow… Somehow he knew that just wasn’t possible. But why wasn’t it possible…?
